THE POVERTY
Poverty is a complex phenomenon and has many dimensions. It is a situation that arises as a result of lack of access or lack of resources to meet basic human physical and psychological needs that affect wear level and quality of life of individuals, such as food, housing, education, health care and access to clean wáter.
EXTREME POVERTY
Is the most severe state of poverty is when people can not satisfy several of the basic necessities of life such as food, potable water, shelter, sanitation and health care needs. The World Bank defines extreme poverty as people living on less than $ 1.25 a day.
We can define then that extreme poverty is a situation in which no longer able to cover the main needs of human beings, who may lose his life for not having even one meal a day, unfortunately there are many such cases in our country.

POVERTY IN GUATEMALA
In Guatemala 27% of the population has an income of less than a dollar a day, making a total of nearly 3 million people are extremely poor in our country. In addition, 57% of the Guatemalan population has an income less than two dollars a day, giving us a total of 6 million poor people, who make up half of the entire population.
Poverty in our country is concentrated in rural areas, where almost 40% of the inhabitants are extremely poor, while in the city there is a 7% percent of people with the same condition. Consequently, 39.1 percent of the extremely poor are indigenous and 15.4 are Ladino, which we express the fact that the social marginalization determines ethnocultural marginalization.
